More wild winter weather on the way for Perth

Wild winter weather lashed Perth this morning, as a cold front crossed the metro area just after 10 o’clock.

The Bureau of Meteorology warned of destructive winds and heavy rain, with a severe weather warning issued from Geraldton to Southern Cross to Esperance.

A caller to Gary Adshead’s program warned that motorists had pulled over on the Kwinana Freeway to let the front pass, as heavy rain reduced visibility and made driving condition dangerous.

The strong winds also caused some problems for drivers.

Rottnest Island recorded wind gusts of 95 kilometres per hour at 7.27am, and 7.8mm of rain has been recorded at Perth and Perth Airport since 9am.

The rain is set to continue and the BoM has forecast possible hail overnight.

Morning Show roving reporter Lisa Barnes took a walk through the city and described the damage caused by the storm.
