West Coast beat Blues at the MCG

The West Coast Eagles claimed a rare win at the MCG during a tight contest with a depleted Carlton Blues side.

Despite big names missing from the Blues side, Carlton kept the pressure on the visitors for most of the game, but Mark LeCras’ three goals lead Eagles to the 10.19 (79) to 10.9 (69) win.

Josh Kennedy entered the game only one goal from equaling Peter Sumich’s 514 goal record for West Coast and Kennedy reached that milestone, but didn’t exceed it.

Lewis Jetta was a late withdrawal for the Eagles due to general soreness, Tom Cole came in for Jetta.
Carlton announced early in the week their captain Marc Murphy will be out of the side for a month due to a foot injury, but defender Sam Rowe made his return to the team.

“It would’ve been nice to kick a bit straighter and we gave up a couple goals as well, but winning’s winning,” Eagles skipper Shannon Hurn told 6PR after the game.

“We struggled at times and couldn’t break the game open, but we got the win.” Hear what West Coast Coach Adam Simpson had to say after the game.
